About Us

Many of you may remember meeting Jim at one of our area’s home and builder shows held here each spring. If you had met him, you likely wouldn’t have forgotten him!

Jim left his white-collar 9 to 5 job in the mid-70s. He decided working with his hands would be much more fulfilling as he had always been handy. Jim began working for Sears & Roebuck as a local installer of their replacement windows and doors. He then went to work full-time installing three-season screened in porches for several years. Jim decided he could truly make a go of it by going into business for himself. His goal was to help people improve their homes without having to break their banks. So, in 1980, Jim began Wagner’s Leisure Living, Inc.

Jim worked out of his home in Onalaska and rented various warehouse spaces for materials throughout the years. He had help from many part-time workers but mainly built and installed alone during the day, going on appointments and service calls evenings.

In 1990, Jim hired his son-in-law, Rich Kubal. In 1998, Rich and Jim’s daughter, Chris, began the purchase of Wagner’s Leisure Living. Unfortunately, Jim passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly in 2003. Today, Rich still runs Wagner’s Leisure Living in Onalaska, Wisconsin.

If you call, you may speak to Rich or his daughter, Nicole (age 19), who helps in the office during the summer. His wife, Chris, handles the office work and book-keeping and their son, Zach (age 16), works on-site, learning the trade. Their daughter, Gabrielle (age 7) and just starting Kindergarten) has yet to launch her Wagner’s Leisure Living career.

Rich also has one full-time carpenter, Lucas, who you will meet too if you hire Wagner’s Leisure Living for your home improvement needs. As you can see from our extensive background, we are your logical choice for sunrooms, decks, patio covers, carports, replacement windows/doors, siding, seamless gutters, awnings & canopies.
